Dear Residents of Fairfield,
Welcome to the latest Safer Neighbourhood Team newsletter, where we share updates on local policing activity, community engagement, crime prevention advice, and issues affecting our neighbourhood.
During the last Ward Panel meeting in September the new ward priorities were agreed upon are as followed: • E-scooters and e-bikes being ridden carelessly within the Town Centre.
To tackle concerns around illegal e-bikes and e-scooters, Fairfield officers continue to support Op VEYVAH, a proactive operation targeting illegally modified bikes in Croydon Town Centre. Led by PC Ivy and supported by additional funding, specially trained officers patrol the town centre, stopping bikes suspected of being illegal. Any bikes found to be unlawfully modified or not road legal are seized, helping to improve public safety and reduce anti-social behaviour. This operation has been nationally recognised with PC Ivy presenting last week at the UKROEd/NPCC Roads Policing Conference 2026.
Fairfield Safer Neighbourhood Team has adopted a Problem-Oriented Policing approach to tackle shoplifting at one of the most frequently targeted stores in Croydon. Working in partnership with the Co-op, officers initially conducted plain-clothes operations to identify prolific offenders and implement measures to deter further offending. Following this work, officers and store staff identified two repeat offenders responsible for a significant number of thefts. PC Pennington developed a recording system enabling store staff to accurately document offences and ensure incidents were not missed. As a result, more than 100 shoplifting offences, with a combined value exceeding £8,500, have been linked to and charged against the two offenders. One offender is currently serving a custodial sentence and is subject to Criminal Behaviour Order (CBO) application, while the second offender received a suspended sentence with additional requirements, which has since been breached.
